Airedale Breeders

The first Airedale breeders selected the strongest and the most intelligent dogs for small game hunting and other active work. Nowadays, this breed is rarely used for a specific task; it’s mostly kept as a pet and playing companion for children. Airedale Terriers are very agile and fun-loving. Their average life span is 10-12 years. They retain their easy-going personality for many years and bring both challenge and happiness into the lives of their owners. Novice owners may find it difficult to own a pet of this breed, but if given proper socialization and obedience training, the Airedale Terrier becomes very reliable and easy to live with.

Responsible Airedale breeders will never sell an Airedale Terrier to a busy and ignorant person who knows nothing on the breed’s keeping requirements and has no time for a dog. If left to its own devices, the Airedale Terrier will become restless and bored. Without regular training sessions and long walks, these active and inquisitive dogs will get themselves into trouble. No Airedale Terrier can be kept chained in the yard. Such dogs are not designed for guarding and protection. Their fun-loving nature and inherent instincts make them good hunters. This breed is best suited for tracking, watchdogging, police work and entertaining the family.

Airedale breeders and owners should be smart, patient and assertive to cope with these intelligent and independent creatures. A well-trained Airedale Terrier can become the best friend for both adults and kids, but a mistreated and bored Airedale Terrier will turn the life of the family into a nightmare. Difficulties in training are the main reason for abandoning a pet of this breed to the rescue. That’s why prior to purchasing an Airedale Terrier, prospective owner has to make sure he/she is ready for a responsible ownership.

This breed is very hardy and healthy. Some bloodlines are prone to a number of hereditary disorders, but purchasing a dog from a reputable kennel can guarantee a healthy animal. If a purebred animal has minor health or conformation faults, it’s sold as a pet quality. Pet Airedale Terriers have the same “Terrier” personality and working characteristics, but they cannot be bred and shown. Pet quality dogs are spayed or neutered, which decreases the level of natural aggression to other dogs in males and makes females stable and devoted to the owner. All Airedale breeders have to warn buyers of both pet and show quality animals about hereditary problems in the bloodline.
