Airedale Puppy

When selecting an Airedale puppy, look for a reputable and experienced breeder and visit the kennel where the litter is kept to see what atmosphere your future puppy is raised in. Much in the dog’s personality depends on the first few weeks of its life and the attitude of the breeder towards socialization and training the puppies. Before visiting the breeder, you should read much on the breed’s personality and keeping requirements and think over what to ask the breeder about. Feel free to ask about health problems in this particular bloodline. Many Airedale Terriers are prone to allergies, hip dysplasia, and other disorders. If the owner is aware of possible problems, it would be easier to prevent a disorder at the early stage. It would be nice to see both parents of the puppy and watch the puppy playing with the littermates to have an idea of its future looks and temperament. Friendly, playful and easy-going Airedale puppies make better pets than aloof or hyperactive ones.

An Airedale puppy can be taken to the new house after it’s eight weeks old. You can visit the kennel and see the litter when the puppies are younger, but a reputable breeder will not sell an Airedale puppy before it’s old enough to be taken from the mother. If separated from the littermates too early, a puppy may have problems with socialization. If you buy an adult dog, it may be difficult to adapt to the new house and new lifestyle. It’s impossible to guarantee a perfect health and temperament of every Airedale Puppy the breeder sells, but the breeder should be willing to take a problematic dog back and replace it.

Not only a buyer is selecting a right Airedale puppy, but a breeder is also selecting the right owner for every dog. Breeders ask a lot of questions to make sure every puppy is sold to loving and caring owners. Every responsible breeder insists on returning the dog to the kennel if the owner for any reason cannot keep it. If the breeder doesn’t care about the future life of the puppy, he/she should not be trusted. Only backyard breeders try to get rid of the dog. Such profit-oriented breeders will sell an Airedale puppy to the least suitable person and it will make both the owner and the dog unhappy.

Owing the Airedale Terrier is a great responsibility. This “king of Terriers” is very intelligent and people-oriented. A dog of this breed needs much daily exercise and active play. Only early socialization and consistent, creative training with positive motivation will make a reliable pet out of an Airedale puppy. Leaving a dog in the yard to exercise on its own is not the way out. Without enough attention and communication with people, Airedale Terriers are likely to become bored, neurotic, or destructive. Novice owners should not choose an Airedale puppy as a first-time dog.
